Five Nontraditional Wedding Gifts

Weddings are a time of celebration. In addition to the big day of the ceremony and reception, there is the lead up to the wedding of engagement parties, bridal showers, Jack and Jill parties, and bachelor/bachelorette parties. Although most couples set up a registry with gifts they would like for their kitchen and home, sometimes you want to give something a little different - something that stands out from the traditional gifts.

Here are some nontraditional gifts we would consider giving the newlyweds:

  1. Spa treatments. After months of wedding planning and running around to make sure everything is complete for the big day, the newlyweds will appreciate a gift that forces them to relax. A couple's massage can either be used on their honeymoon or can be enjoyed when they get back to the daily grind.
  2. Tickets. Your brother, the groom-to-be, and his bride love the New England Patriots. They live and breathe football and the team. Why not give them tickets to a game? Even better, tickets to the Patriots versus the Jets, a big time rivalry and big time game.
  3. Crystal gifts. Whether a personalized 3d picture crystal or crystal champagne glasses, crystal gifts are typically something a couple doesn't buy for themselves.
  4. Homemade items. If you are strapped for cash but still want to get the couple a meaningful gift, try making something homemade. If the bride has been your friend since high school, make a scrapbook of your adventures through the years. Not that artistic? Websites like Shutterfly allow you to design a photo album that they finalize and put together themselves.
  5. Night out. A night on the town courtesy of you. Reservations and a paid tab at the couples' favorite restaurant. Admission to their favorite museum exhibit.
